Rock and ? | 石 + ？

Rock and ?   began with a simple question: what happens when Chinese seal carving is no longer treated as a signature at the edge of an artwork, but as the artwork itself? Created with fellow artist Tan Seow Wei, the exhibition explored the expressive possibilities of an ancient craft through collage, printmaking, painting, fibre, and carved stone.

My own works drew from love songs, online dating, conversations with friends, and borrowed wisdom to trace the emotional terrain of longing, heartbreak, and hope. Together, the exhibition invited visitors to encounter seal carving as a living, evolving practice.

Inspired by American poet Mary Oliver’s “Wild Geese”, a poem that has given legions of girlies the permission to lean into softness and release themselves from the harshness of perfectionism, productivity and performance – an antidote for modern times.

When you fly to a new country to meet a man with whom you’ve cultivated a monthlong online romance, he may decide to ghost you without reason. Under such circumstances, sketching at the foot of millenia-old temples proves effective medicine for mayfly affairs.
